The world marks World Social Justice Day on February 20. ACORD’s mission is to work in common cause with people who are poor and those who have been denied their rights to obtain social justice. Among the areas that ACORD is working is in supporting and mobilising networks and movements in Africa to take action and find solutions to hunger through a food sovereignty approach. Read more

Social cohesion through peaceful reconciliation of communities in Mauritania
Despite several legal and institutional opportunities offered to former slave communities in Mauritania as part of efforts to take into account their rights and specific needs, these communities continue to suffer the disastrous consequences of the legacy of slavery. Mananasi, mpango mzima: It’s all about pineapples!
In Geita district, north-west Tanzania, over 70 per cent of households depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. Major food and cash crops include cassava, maize, sweet potatoes, beans, cowpeas, yams, cotton and groundnuts but, most of all, this area is know for having the sweetest pineapples in Tanzania, known locally as “mananasi.” Read more.
