Uganda: Enhancing living conditions for Burundian and Congolese refugees

The Nakivale and Rwamwanja settlements in South Western Uganda are hosting around 150,000 Congolese and Burundian refugees. With Euro 500,000 in funding from ECHO, ACORD is enhancing the self-reliance of 15,434 of these refugees through provision of livelihood support and gender based violence protection services.

500 vulnerable households have been supported with quick maturing vegetable and fruit tree seedlings to increase their resilience. They will also be trained in post harvest handling and marketing.

15 refugee village savings and loan associations have also been set up to support alternative income generating activities and small businesses, targeting refugee youths.
