ACORD developed and implemented a pilot project in Tanzania and Uganda, aimed at promoting the rights of PLHAs by helping multiple actors to better understand and challenge HIV and AIDS related stigma and discrimination.

The main objectives of this one year project, implemented in 4 districts, included:

  1. Strengthening the organizational capacity of People Living with HIV and AIDS (PLHAs) structures to engage with other actors and lobby for their rights;
  1. Deepen the understanding of stigma and discrimination in different contextsin terms of causes, manifestations and impact, as a basis for developing more effective and context
    specific responses;
  2. To promote social action through networking, partnerships and alliance building; and to ensure learning and sharing of lessons and best practices both within the two countries in which the project was implemented and at a Pan African level.
