November 2009 was a hive of activities as ACORD in Burundi engaged local partners under the Oxfam umbrella in HIV/AIDS-related awareness. The 2009 World AIDS Day theme, “Universal Access and Human Rights” was hallmarked through joint participation in diverse forms of celebrations.

Public Dialogue on Impacting Africa's Agriculture and Food Sovereignty
African farmers tour Europe to Speak Out on Trade and Agriculture

A Pan African delegation recently traveled to Berlin, Brussels, Madrid, Paris and London to engage European farmers, parliamentarians, civil society and media in discussions regarding the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) and the European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) both instruments that risk having disastrous consequences on African small scale farmers.
3 farming leaders, 2 national parliamentarians and 2 ACORD staff constituted the African delegation that traveled across Europe between the 2nd and 14 March 2009. |

WSF 2009: Global Economic Crisis; Local Solutions
|
The eighth edition of the World Social Forum 2009 held from January 27 to February 1 in Belem, Brazil had the global economic crisis and its effects, as well as environmental and climate issues high on the agenda. The forum that gathered more than 130,000 people from 4,000 social movements and civil society organisations from 150 countries was also attended by African Civil Society organisations including Agency for Cooperation and Research in Development (ACORD).

GENDER: Security Sector Reform - Public Forum on Rethinking Security Forces

On the occasion of the International day for the elimination of
violence against women on Tuesday, 25 November, 2008, civil societies
and non-governmental organisations organised a public forum in Nairobi

Kenya: Communities in Sotik and Borabu Agree to Embrace Peace

A community social contract was signed on Friday, 21 November 2008 by
communities of Kipsigis and Kisii in an event held at Borderline
Academy in Burgei to symbolise a transition from protracted ethnic
conflict to peaceful coexistence. This was to mark the turning point
towards unity and development among the communities, as part of a
project coordinated by the Agency for Cooperation and Research in
Development (ACORD) and Cereal Growers Association (CGA) and funded by Oxfam Hong Kong, seeking to
